A 35-year-old Japanese man got married to a hologram of a digital pop star and performed a wedding ceremony. How could that happen you ask?

There are no boundaries on love, and this Japanese man is an exact example. Akihiko Kondo, 35 years old, found the love of his life and decided to marry her no matter how his mother disapproved.

You wonder what’s special about this? She’s not an actual human.

Who Kondo insisted to marry is a hologram of Hatsune Miku, a Japanese pop-icon. Plus, Hatsune Miku is a digital creation. Yes, Kondo got married to a hologram of a digital pop star in a Rs 12.7 lakh ceremony which none of his relatives wanted to come.

Miku is the digital avatar of a voice mixing software. Her name, meaning the first sound of the future, was just a style of voice for the Vocaloid software, letting people write and compose their own music, then get it to sing their songs. Apparently, she’s obtained certain fame in Japan, and other countries, which opens for music artists and even has her own concerts.

Despite all that, Kondo married Miku, performed a ceremony with her in the form of a stuffed doll with her signature big anime eyes and pigtails down to the ankles in aquamarine. Since March, Kondo has lived with Miku, or her hologram to be exact, floating above a projector on a costly desktop.

Kondo said he loves the whole concept of Hatsune Miku, though he married the holographic version at home. He stressed that he always think about her every day, never cheated on her.

Miku’s holographic ‘lives’ on a simple AI, she wakes Kondo up, greets him and reminds him to go to bed. Kondo puts Miku stuffed doll in his bed, wearing a wedding band on her wrist.

Gatebox, the hologram device company, gave the couple an official marriage certificate, they’ve issued more than 3,700 certificates like this.

About his love, Kondo emphasized that we should appreciate all kinds of love and happiness.

However, if Kondo takes this marriage serious, he may also want to remember that Miku is made to remain 16 years old forever, and considering she was designed in 2007, she’s only ten years old now.
