PuREnergy, the new EVs startup comes from ITT Hyderabad, with the launch of four new electric two-wheelers aims to deploy over 10,000 EVs in India by 2020.

Amid the current EV revolution, another EV startup has emerged in the automotive industry of India. The new EV firm called PuREnergy is from Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, a well-known educational institution in the country.

Along with its arrival, the company has brought about four new electric two-wheelers: Etron, Epluto, Etrance, and Egnite which have all been specifically designed to be suitable for traveling on Indian roads. Moreover, they can offer high performance as well as long-range.

Cultivated at IIT Hyderabad, PuREnergy’s EV division Pure EV is in charge of the new EV products. By 2020, the company wants to launch more than 10,000 EVs in India. Meanwhile, PuREnergy will take care of developing high-performance Li-ion batteries. A facility of 18,000 square feet has been set up on the same location as IIT Hyderabad to mass produce these EVs and batteries.

In 2016, Assistant Professor Nishanth Dongari at IIT Hyderabad’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering founded PuREnergy. Rohit Vadere, IIT Bombay’s alumnus, later joined the startup firm as its co-founder. The duo has plans on developing a partnering network for the sales of their electric vehicles after their official launch next month.

Among the four models launched by the companies, two are electric bicycles, and two are electric scooters. The two e-bikes are Etron and Egnite, priced at Rs 32,999 and Rs 54,999 respectively. Both of them are claimed to have a maximum range of 60km. Etrance and Epluto, the two electric scooters, are available at Rs 56,999 and Rs 74,999 respectively.

Although Pure EV has chosen the right time to launch its products since the industry is still taking its form, it might need more to make a powerful impact. On the market, there are other players with just as many products, with similar pricing, and specifications. So it is going to be a tough market.
