After the Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander made a hard-landing, ISRO hasn’t lost hope and continued to make efforts. Just seconds before the lander made a touch down on the surface of the moon, all communication was gone.
On September 8, ISRO located the Vikram Lander on the moon’s surface. Chief K Sivan of ISRO in an interview said that an image of the lander on the lunar surface was taken by the Chandrayaan-II orbiter.
An ISRO officer who was a part of the mission said,
The official continued by saying that the organization is trying its best in re-establishing the communication with the lander. An ISRO team is working on that at ISTRAC (ISROTelemetry, Tracking and Command Network.
It is crucial for ISRO to identify Vikram lander’s location as the organization is still hoping they could communicate with the lander again. Moreover, it will assist the scientists in identify what went wrong.
An ISRO official commented on the possibility of re-establishing communication with the lander that unless the lander was still intact, it would be extremely challenging to re-establish contact. Only if the lander had made a soft-landing and all of its systems would still function, that communication could be restored.
Meanwhile, another senior official who also works at the space agency that there is still a chance, raising hope the Vikram lander may spring back to life.
The journey of Chandrayaan 2 began from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on July 22. The mission is considered as one of the most complicated ones in history.
