Everything seems to be found on the Internet, from the latest news, extraordinary stories or best entertainment programmes. Its helpfulness can’t be denied; however, the Internet also brings many hazards to us, especially to children.
Taking this issue into consideration, the Madras High Court approved a petition given by S Vijayakumar which showed the demand for a good enough parental control feature. With the feature, parents can monitor all the contents available on the Internet being accessed by their children. It will be expectedly integrated into internet connections from the Indian ISPs.
As per S Vijayakumar, he revealed that Supreme Court and Union Government have paid much attention in the internet’s influence on children and given several directions, but the Internet Service Providers (or ISPs for short), in contrary, don’t provide any specific action.
Also in the Madras High Court, he gave a lot of typical examples to demonstrate dangers which children may face when they surf the Internet. One of these examples is ‘Blue Whale’ suicide game – a social network phenomenon in 2016. Besides, many other abusive contents need to be monitored.
Citing from many reports, Vijayakumar believed that the right awareness and the ISPs’ offering parental window controls would help parents to follow more efficiently all the contents which may be attractive to their children.
Also, he provided the directions given by the court for the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. This aims to call for cooperation from the Internet Service Providers regarding the dispersion of the abusive contents on the Internet.
To bring a healthy online space to the children’s world, the supervision and attention from parents take an essential part. However, many users are afraid that the government can penetrate and exploit their online data. Hope that there will be a solution suitable for both parents and cyber censorships in recent time.
