Thai King Self-Isolates In A Luxury Hotel With 20 Women Amid CO.VID-19 Spreading In Thailand

The controversial king of Thailand is now in self-isolation in a luxury hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Alpine resort town, with his company of 20 concubines.

Rama X, or King Maha Vajiralongkorn, is believed to have booked the whole Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl after the district council granted it permission to accommodate him and his entourage.

The party of the 67-year-old king consists of several servants and 20 concubines. It is unclear at this point if his four wives are at the hotel with him.

All hotels and guest houses in the area have been ordered to close, except for the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl as the King’s entourage is considered a homogenous group without fluctuation.

However, the authority has sent back 119 people of the party as they suspect these people might carry the Coronavirus.

The news of Rama X self-isolating himself in a luxury hotel has enraged thousands of citizens of Thailand, who have been criticizing him online, risking violating the country’s lèse-majesté laws, which will imprison anyone insulting the monarchy for up to 15 years.

After an activist claimed that Vijaralongkorn was still on holiday in Germany when Thailand is dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak, the news has sparked a surge of among Thai people. On Twitter, a hashtag in Thai, which can roughly translate to “Why do we need a king?” appears 1.2 million times in just 24hours.

As of Saturday, Thailand had 109 new cases, bumping the country’s total to 1,245.

According to Somsak Jeamteerasakul, an activist now living in France, Vajiralongkorn traveled from Switzerland to Germany in early March because he was bored.

Jeamteerasakul is quite vocal in criticizing Thailand’s monarchy and Vajiralongkorn, as well as the lèse-majesté laws.

As stated by The Times, the king has not shown up in his home country since February.

Rama X’s reign began back in 2016 after the death of his father. While the lèse-majesté laws have made it next to impossible to know what Thai people think of the current king, it is believed that he is not as much loved as his father, who reigned for more than seven decades.
