Following its announcement for its future electric cars lineup for the Indian market, Tata Motors has unveiled a new in-house electric car platform specially made for India.
The new technology platform for electric vehicles called Ziptron will be used for Tata Motors’ upcoming electric car for early 2020 launch. According to the company, a team consists of 350 engineers put efforts in building the technology. With this platform, the team considered the climatic as well as traffic conditions of India while attempting to tackle EVs-related issues like a limited performance and range.

The new technology will use a lithium-ion battery with liquid cooling functionality to maintain the ideal temperature. The IP67 rating is also equipped for dust protection and waterproofing. This would also make sure that the battery’s performance would not be hampered by factors such as prolonged use and extreme temperature.
At the moment, the company hasn’t revealed an exact number for the range that the battery can support. Autocar report claimed that the battery is expected to support at least 250km for a single charge. The battery will be a part of an EV and has a warranty of eight years, similar to the vehicle’s electric motors.
For an electric motor, the new platform Ziptron will deploy a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor which has a high-voltage of300V-plus. Different driving modes will be supported for the vehicle’s varied performances.
Tata Motors said that during the developing period, it has already put the technology to test for around 1 million km. Moreover, the company will also be adding its connected vehicle technology to upcoming electric vehicles to monitor their status, health, and more.
Tata Motors announced earlier that it will release five new electric vehicles for the Indian market in the next 12 to 18 months. And it is not until then that we can comment about the performance of Ziptron.
