Scientists Want To Send A Crew On An 1,000 Year Journey To Colonize Another Planet

Andreas Hein of the Initiative for Interstellar Studies said that the journey to another planet was possible as it violated no physical law

Our planet has done a good job sustaining life but we still have to prepare for a possible future when Earth is no longer habitable. This is why a team of experts is working on an ambitious plan to make an exoplanet the planet B.

For now, this idea is still far-fetched. According to the experts of the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, what they intend to do is to send a team to another planet located in another solar system. The planet has the potential to sustain life but the journey there may take hundreds of years, or even over 1,000 years. This means during this endeavor, a few generations will die before we can reach the new planet.

This kind of mission has several challenges we tackle. However, Andreas Hein, executive director of the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, is confident that the journey was possible as it would violate no physical law.

One of the most pressing issues is how the crew can survive for that long in space. For now, a shorter journey to Mars has already been challenging to execute as we have not yet found a way to protect our astronauts from the cosmic radiation and problems related to human health.

The journey is built on an assumption that the exoplanet we want to conquer is actually habitable and can become the second Earth. And what if the next generations of humans on this trip have a change of heart midway? Not many people are fond of the idea that they were born just to fulfill a mission.
