Research results suggest that the Earth is at its hottest it has ever been in at least 12,000 years, a period that covers the entire development of human civilization. According to scientists, the temperature analysis on the ocean surface shows that climate change caused by humans may lead to the Earth’s temperature reaching its hottest level in 125,000 years.
The research was published in the science journal Nature. Climate patterns have demonstrated constant warming since the last ice age ended 12,000 years ago and the Holocene (Human Era) began.

Previous temperature estimates from the fossil’s crust suggested that the peak of global warming occurred 6,000 years ago. After that, the Earth cooled down. It was not until the industrial revolution that caused carbon emissions skyrocket. However, researchers stated that the data only reflected hotter summers while ignoring colder winters, resulting in inaccurate temperature estimates.
Samantha Bova, a scientist at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, the US, the head of the study, said that the team has been able to prove that the average annual global temperature has increased over 12,000 years, as opposed to the previous results.

The amount of carbon dioxide released today is at its highest level in around 4 million years and is increasing at the fastest rate in 66 million years. Higher temperatures and sea levels are inevitable until we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero.
