Environmental issues like how much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere or how to handle waste in the most efficient way have always been a top priority across the world. However, we seem to be underestimating what we are facing.
According to scientists, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air in 2018 has touched the highest levels ever in our development history. Emissions showed the sign of relative balance during the three previous years, from 2014 to 2016, and it is the basis of our belief that the methods we have applied to fight against climate change are actually useful and we can push back the climate change.
The fact is not optimistic as we still think. In 2017, the emission amount of carbon dioxide in the world increased by 1.6% while the amount may grow by over 2.7% this year.
With the worrying increase, the emission levels in industry and fossil fuel scattered everywhere will reach a new record with 37.1 billions of carbon dioxide each year. One sad truth is that India has “contributed” on 6% of this increase, the percentage is even higher than that of China with 6%.
At the 24th annual UN climate conference this week, António Guterres as the Secretary-General of the United Nations confirmed the troubles regarding climate change we had to face. Humanity has been under the urgency. Although we have been clearly aware of the global ravage originating from the impacts of climate devastation, what we are doing is not enough and in time, and as a result, protecting environment has still had a lot of limits.
The report was given under the Global Carbon Project, focusing on the environmental issues as we mentioned above. It is likely that 10 years will be the last period for us to improve the consequences caused by global warming or humanity will entirely disappear on Earth. It’s time for the world-class leaders to discuss again to change the contents of the Paris Climate agreement.
