Scientists Have Found A Way For Every Electronic Devices To Transmit Quantum Information

What they found is that we could transmit quantum information through silicon carbide, the material appears everywhere, from telescopes to LED lights

Quantum computing promises to bring about super processing power but the challenges still lie ahead if we want to use it in a practical and affordable way. However, we might have a way.

There are two recent studies highlighting how we can have quantum technology in everyday electronics. What they found is that we could transmit quantum information through silicon carbide, the material appears everywhere, from telescopes to LED lights.

What the research points out is that we can harness part of the power of the technology to use in everyday life, through electronic devices already in use in homes. However, the future is still uncertain.

These scientists have successfully created quantum states within silicon carbide, which has wavelengths really close to the band we are using for telecommunicating. This is an intriguing prospect as we may not need to modify the existing infrastructure much to be able to transmit quantum information.

These findings are indeed promising but this does not mean you can have a quantum computer in front of you in the next few years. However, this encourages the hope that someday, we may have quantum power with our everyday life devices.

Back in September, we saw a huge landmark achieved when some researchers successfully created a model really close to a quantum computer using some tweaked versions of a normal computer’s components. Plus, it can work at room temperature.

These findings are another step taken toward the goal of a day when we can transmit and distribute quantum information using only the current fiber-optic systems.

If that prospect comes true, we are talking about technologies like quantum internet and communication channels that are impossible to be hacked.
