Russia Races Against US To Film The First Movie In Space

A new type of space race has begun with the US and Russia trying to become the first nation to film a movie on the International Space Station.

Last month, we learned that Tom Cruise would go to the ISS by the end of next year. But now, Russia’s Roscosmos space agency and Channel One – the largest TV channel in the country, are looking to send an actress to the ISS to make their own movie, according to Russian news outlet TASS.

Russia races against the US

Now that Russia is making a move, it appears that Tom Cruise will compete to be the first actor to act in space. Channel One and Roscosmos are looking for an actress good enough to beat Tom Cruise.

SpaceX will help Tom Cruise travel to the ISS in October 2021 aboard its Crew Dragon spaceship.

As for Russia, the movie may be titled “The Challenge.” There hasn’t been a lead actor yet, all we know is that it will be a woman. There will soon be auditions for the female lead role. Alexey Trotsyuk, a Russian general producer, said:

“We are seeking a woman who would be able to act on Earth, then endure the most demanding preparation, go to space and there, in the state of zero gravity, to sort the most complicated filming issues.”

According to a report, the film producers made the decision with the best interest of the plot in mind. Previously, the producers planned to cast both female and male actors with two versions of the scenario. But after discussion, they decided that a female character would be more actable.

The chosen actress will receive thorough training as a cosmonaut. Moreover, she has to be athletic, with no criminal record and higher education.
