PUBG Mobile Will Come Back To India With A $100 Million Investment

Two months into Indian’s government ban on PUBG Mobile and 118 other Chinese apps, PUBG Corp announced yesterday that the hugely successful mobile game was making a comeback to India.

KRAFTON Inc – the South Korean company holding rights for the game, said it would develop a new game called PUBG Mobile India to ease privacy and security concerns.

Just last week, a deal between KRAFTON and Microsoft was inked. As part of the collaboration, the new game will be hosted on Azure.

According to the company, the security and privacy of Indian gamers are PUBG Corp’s top priority. The company will conduct frequent verifications and audits on the system storing identifiable information of Indian users to make sure the data is managed safely and properly.

A few days after the ban was made public, PUBG Corp said it would try to bring PUBG Mobile back to India soon. It cut ties with Tencent, the game’s former distributor in India.

The game’s association with Tencent and the growing tension between China and India are partly why the game was banned in the first place.

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad said PUBG Mobile would try to restore its former glory as India’s highest-grossing mobile game while meeting regulations.

The company also announced a $100 million investment to help grow the local gaming community:

Before the ban, PUBG Mobile is India’s most-downloaded game, amassing over 50 million users.
