PUBG Mobile – a big hit in the Indian market that was banned two months ago, is planning to come back to India.
PUBG Corp – the company behind the game, has made a deal with Microsoft – one of the world’s biggest cloud service providers, to store user data locally to ease the Indian government’s concern over security.

On November 7, Krafton, PUBG Corp’s parent company announced a partnership with Microsoft to host all games developed by Krafton and its subsidiaries on Microsoft Azure. Microsoft has data centers all over the world, including three in India.
A source familiar with the matter said some top Indian streamers were secretly informed that PUBG Mobile would return before year-end. Another source revealed that PUBG Corp planned to launch a campaign in India during Diwali.
According to an expert in the industry, in the last few weeks, PUGB Corp has been contacting several Indian companies, including Paytm and Airtel to see if any of them interested in publishing PUBG Mobile in India.
Before the ban, Tencent – a Chinese tech giant, was responsible for publishing the game in India. However, after the government took action in the name of sovereignty and privacy, PUBG Corp cut ties with the Chinese company and searched for a new partner.
PUBG Mobile used to be hosted on Tencent Cloud.
Two months into the ban, the company terminated its service for users in India. With over 50 million active users in India, before the ban, PUBG Mobile is the country’s most popular game.

The game’s popularity has given way to the development of a whole ecosystem of cottage industry and esports organizations.
The return of the game might be a pleasant piece of news for gamers but a bad one for companies that are developing its substitutes, taking the chance to cash in on the ban.
If PUBG Corp could bring back PUBG Mobile in this way, it means more than 200 apps the government has banned could also make a comeback by making the same move.
