PUBG: How Did A Developer Create The Most Popular Mobile Game In India

The story of how PUGB started and became one of the most popular game in the battle royale genre in the hand of Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene.

Have you ever asked yourself why PUBG has its rather weird kind o name at the beginning? Well, the answer is simple. It's not named by a game studio's name or a made-up title, it's someone's gamer tag. It came from the nickname of Brendan Greene, the lead designer of the game.

How about the beginning of the game itself? How did it become one of the most successful, iconic battle royal titles on PC, console and even mobile platform in India? That's what we are going to tell you today in the article below.

Started from a mod...

The story behind the development of PUBG started in 2013, from DayZ, a very famous mod of the open world game Arma 2. This mod created a world within the game, in which players will have to survive in a zombie world.

This mod, along with a successful Japanese book named "Battle Royale", has inspired then 37-year-old modder Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene to create his own mod. In his mod, you will fight against other people instead of zombies.

PUBG might not come to birth without the appearance of DayZ.

Eventually, with enormous dedication, Greene has learned how to actually develop a game himself. The mod turned out doing quite well, partly because of the popularity of DayZ then.

That mod is considered the precursor of the current PUBG we all know about, one of the pioneers of Battle Royale genre.

 ...To a real game

DayZ's developer finally managed to release the standalone version of his mod. It was at that time that Greene realized he can do the same with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

With the success of his first mod, Greene had gained some reputation at the time and then Sony Online Entertainment (now the Daybreak Game Company) has invited him to help to develop a similar mod for the game H1Z1. Finally, the mod turned into a standalone game which was called 'H1Z1: King of the Kill'.

After finishing the contract with Sony in 2015, Greene was contacted by Korean studio Bluehole Ginno for one of their projects. Battle Royale was something new in South Korea and the studio wanted to take the chance of being the first to develop this genre.

Greene was also involved in the creation of H1Z1: King of the hill

Greene accepted the chance and he became the creative director of his own child. The standalone version of PUBG started its first steps to become one of the most successful battle royale titles...

The greatest thing about the success of Brendan Greene is that he is not only the creator of the biggest battle royale game in the market but also one of the most important people who managed to promote the whole genre itself.
