Popular Technologies Used Everyday That You Don't Know Developed By Nazi Germans

Here are the top nine technologies that we might have to thank Nazi Germany for, including tanks, gas masks, programmable computers, and more.

Millions of people died during World War II and millions of others must leave their hometown forever. The center of the war was Nazi Germany, which started the war with its tyrannical Fuhrer. Pretty much everyone would wish to kill Hitler and end the Nazi Party for what they had done, but they actually did some good to the world in terms of technology.

Nazi Germany had to constantly invest in technologies in order to go against the Allied forces.

However, they didn’t do it because they thought it was a good deed, but they did it because they were going against the Allied forces in the war. And that is why they spent a lot of resources on developing new technology to battle against their enemies. Those technologies were once the reason behind the deaths of millions, but they have now played a very important role in our normal lives. Without those technologies, our lives might not be the same as it’s today. So, let’s see which are the top technologies that we have to thank Nazi Germany.

9. Programmable computer

During World War II, top-secret conversations were very important as it would result in very serious consequences if they were picked up by the enemies. That is the reason why the Nazis had to use programmable computers to send their secret codes over the radio.

Afterward, the Allied forces managed to crack those secret codes using computers and it played a vital role in the victory. While the technology couldn’t help the Germans win the war in the end, it was still very important in triggering the modern inventions like computers, smartphones, and laptops.

8. Mass Radio

Mass Radio Nazi Germany
Mass radio played an important part during World War II.

The radio was one of the most useful equipments used in the First World War as it helped soldiers to communicate with each other. However, it was very big back then, making it very hard to carry around. So, Nazis believed that it was very important to improve the radio to make it lighter, smaller, and less static issues. They also made it work higher up in the air or at sea.

7. Electronic Punched Card

You might remember the huge electronic punched cards that were very widely used in many large companies in the 90s. Now, they have been replaced by the magnetic ones that we only have to flash in front of a scanner without having to punch anything.

Sadly, the punched card was used in helping Nazi Germany kill millions of European Jews during the Second World War.

The punched card you could have used or seen in your life was first used by the Nazis. It was the American-based IBM that invented the punched card and handed it to the Nazies, facilitate Nazi genocide. It was used in all concentration camps to keep track of all of the prisoners and murder them with no delay.

6. Giant Super Cannons

You can clearly know how dangerous this invention was just by its name. The giant super cannon was also called in many nicknames such as V-3 Cannon or the London gun. It had a width of 140 meters and was capable of firing a 140-kilogram shell towards a target more than 170 kilometers away.

The first prototype of this cannon was immobile so it was pretty easy for the Allied forces to destroy it, but it was after the cannon doing a lot of damage.

5. Tanks

Nazi Germans possessed superior tank technology in World War II as their tanks were not only more advanced but also were constantly improved by new technology.

They were very heavy with models like the P.1500 with a weight of 1,800 tons or the P.1000 Rattle with an estimated weight of 1,000 tonnes. They were even more efficient and stronger than naval guns and battleships.

While Nazis could not develop more advanced models before the Second World War ended, it is believed that if they could, their tanks could have been indestructible.

4. Guided Missiles

The project was only in the testing phase.

Germans invented guided rockets during World War II to take down the Allied Forces. Not just that, they also developed anti-ship guided missiles and bombs that could be air-dropped. They also managed to invent missiles that could be television guided, wire guided, or air guided.

While they obviously could not help Germans win the war because they were still in the testing phase, they certainly helped build the foundation for modern weaponry that the armies use today.

3. Orbital Mirror Lasers

During World War II, the Germans were developing an advanced weapon called ‘Sun gun’. It was supported to be equipped with a concave mirror mounted on a satellite with a diameter of around a mile. It was said to reflect sunlight onto a small area on the earth and destroy the target. With this invention, the Nazis expected to change the course of the war. However, it couldn’t make its debut on the battlefield, rumor has it that the US Army is actually developing a weapon inspired by the ‘Sun Gun’ and it is currently in the testing phase.

2. Gas Masks

Nazis developed chemical weapons as it was a very bloodless and quick way to kill Jews. The first experiment was conducted at Ypres in 1915 when they released chlorine gas all over. With the gas chambers, they had to make sure that their Nazi officers could go in and out of those without inhaling harmful chemicals and that is how the gas masks were created.

1. Mass Meth Production

Even though mass meth production was invented by a Japanese Chemist in 1893, they were the ones that made it popular. They mainly used meth to keep tankers and pilots staying awake for a longer time. Even Infantry could use it to get rid of the fatigue.
