As the streets are deserted under India’s lengthy lockdown, animals, for the first time in years, venture out from their hiding places to explore the human world.
If the U.K has goats, Japan has deer, in Mumbai, citizens are treated with the mesmerizing sight of beautiful peacocks.
Actor Juhi Chawla shared a photo of these majestic creatures on social media:
Here is Twitter’s reaction to the picture:
A user was lucky enough to have a peacock visiting his home in Jaipur:
Other users are in awe of the stunning sight:
Manav Manglani, a celebrity photographer went on Instagram to share pictures of peacocks with hashtags #babulnath in #mumbai.
But why peacocks appear in this neighborhood instead of others? It turns out that the birds do not live in the Khareghat Colony itself but in a nearby forest on a hill.
You read that right, there is a forest in the heart of Mumbai. Citizens of the city might go past it every single day without noticing that it is there.
What is today a neighborhood full of people was once a no-go area. In the 1800s, tigers were wandering around where today are buildings and streets.
With humans taking over the place, wildlife must retreat. The green carpet vanished and what is remaining is a small patch on the top of a hill.
