Okinawa To Set Up Second Manufacturing Facility In India

There are going to be a lot of changes happen to India’s electric vehicle scene. In the coming decade, these vehicles will undoubtedly rule the country. Hoping to take advantage of this golden opportunity, Okinawa Scooters has stated its plans on building its second manufacturing facility right in Rajasthan where the first facility is already located.

Okinawa scooter was among the first companies selling electric scooters in the country. The scooters from the firms were also the first ones to get FAME-II subsidies. The Indian government recently passed the FAME-II which set aside Rs 10,000, hoping to increase India’s electric vehicles adoption.

To boost its growth in the country, 200 crores is spent to invest in setting up the company’s new production facility. Once completed, it can carry out the production of up to a million units. The first operation is expected to be in early 2020-2021.

The Okinawa Ridge+ and the Okinawa iPraise have received inducement from the Indian Automotive Research Association. 80% is the localization level of these products, which the company is aiming to increase this figure. By doing this, the company can also lower the price tags of its electric scooters.

The company has an expanding its network of dealerships. The company’s products can be ordered and delivered within a month. The firm, along with Ather Energy and other upcoming startups, is the country’s first electric vehicle manufacturers. Okinawa is known to not own a charging network. However, that is not going to be a problem considering the fact that its lithium-ion batteries also offer fast charging. With one singer charge, Okinawa iPraise can travel more than 100km with a maximum speed of 70kmph. That is why this scooter is considered as one of the best EVs on the market today. The scooter is available in major cities such as Mumbai.
