Everybody knows how TikTok has taken the world by storm. Scroll your feed and a new video will pop up every second. It’s all fun until it threatens or harms others’ lives.
Well, say that to the nurses filming TikTok videos while they were on duty in a newborn care unit. One of the nurses even help an infant up and shook him slightly. That’s a big no!
On June 28, the four nurses received a show-cause notice from Odisha’s chief district medical officer for medical negligence and filming TikTok videos inside the SNCU (special neonatal care unit) of the district headquarter hospital.
The videos, which have gone viral on the internet, show the nurse wearing their official uniforms while humming, singing, and dancing to Bollywood songs inside the SNCU.
All the video clips were from one user called Jyoti Ray. From the videos, we can also see newborns, patients, and hospital beds.
The hospital set up the SNCU for the treatment of newborns who are critically ill as Malkangiri had a high infant mortality rate.
According to Tapan Kumar Đina, another district medical officer, the hospital is carrying out an inquiry and they will submit a probe report for necessary action. The incident has been described by the CDMO as “unfortunate.”
Dr. Ajit Mohanty, said to HT that:
TikTok has faced a lot of controversies, with people wanting to do mindless stunts, even after the app’s ban was lifted recently by the Madras High Court.
One example of this was a 22-year-old singer and dancer who tried to film himself doing a backflip, leading to his spinal cord injury. After eight days at the hospital, he passed away.
Another foolish video shows a man doing push-ups while being on top of a Delhi Police van’s roof. He then jumps off and sits on the front seat when the car is still moving.
The Delhi Police posted a reply which read:
When will people finally realize that foolishly following the trends can lead to unfortunate events?
