Russian Army have developed a new light-based optical weapon system that can cause Hallucinatory Symptoms to the targets.
A month ago, the Russian Army has released a new type of non-lethal weapon with the name of Filin system 5P-42. This new weapon has been gathering great attention from the media of the West. Some reports are saying that the Russian Navy is putting some kind of barf-inducing lights on to their ships.
In the last few days, we have been receiving some new information about details on this weapon. From Sputnik News (the state-owned media agency of Russia), they confirmed that the Russian Navy is working on a brand new light-based non-lethal optical interference weapon system. They have also quoted a retired colonel that this new weapon can cause “hallucinatory symptoms” to its targets. With this function, the weapon's developer said that this system will help in the operation of Russian special force.
The Filin system will be capable of firing very strong beams of light what would be able to impact the equipment of the enemies and compromise them. In the report from Sputnik — they say that the light from this system can also induce disorientation and nausea.
One week ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense has aired on its own TV network - Zvezda some footage of the 5P-42 system. They said that this system is designed to render useless night vision goggles with the range of more than 5km and it is also capable of disorienting enemies in within 2km radius.
Also, in an interview with Sputnik, the Roselectronics' representatives have said that they are still working on some last upgrades and modifications for the system. The developer has confirmed that the system will not cause permanent blindness but just only reduce the vision 300-500 per cent. According to them, this is not really an attack weapon but more of a protection system against other enemies' weapons.
