The first word that comes out of a child is considered to be something truly special. There is a long list of what might be the child’s first word; however, the most common one usually is either “papa” or “mama.” Nevertheless, in this modern society, things might go a little different because of the effects of technologies, which has an essential influence on our daily lives.
It is an irrefutable fact that AI (Artificial Intelligence) has undoubtedly improved the quality of our lives. However, in some circumstances, it could play the role of a killjoy.
A couple from the US was shocked after hearing their toddler gave her first word, and instead of either ‘dad’ or ‘mom,’ it was ‘Alexa.’ The 26-year-old mother of the child who comes from Blandford Forum, Dorset was horrified after seeing her daughter Annabelle repeatedly saying “Alexa” and tapped on the Amazon Echo.
How did this happen? The girl had been observing her older brother Lucas playing with the voice-activated device for months. Catherine, Annabelle’s mother, even had her husband watch the baby speak her first word.
Liam stated that Annabelle had been repeating the word on several occasions ever since her first time speaking the word on Monday, and she even repeated it during her baptism. He further noted that the device was used to play nursery rhymes for the baby as well.
The parents had been battling for the baby to say “papa” or “mama’; however, it would seem that she had gone a different direction. Annabelle even utters “Alexa” when she wakes up.
Annabelle was not the only case; however, as children are easy to grasp words when they are interacting with voice-activated assistance. There had been a similar case last year in the U.K when a baby spoke “Alexa” as her first word, which later sparked a debate on how modern technologies were affecting children’s early stages of their lives.
