Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercedes-Benz India has announced its plan to build a temporary hospital with 1,500 beds and medical facilities in Chakan, Pune. The car manufacturer from Germany will be discussing with the local authorities to carry out the plan.
Besides the temporary hospital, the firm has revealed that its employees would voluntarily contribute their one day’s salary. The amount of money will go towards the Relief Fund of Maharashtra Chief Minister for the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the company’s official release, the facility will locate in the housing area of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority. This is a newly-built building with 374 rooms. For the COVID-19 temporary hospital, the auto-maker will work together with the Zila Parishad for the set up’s complete infrastructure. Moreover, it will assist in purchasing medical equipment that is needed for a temporary ODP, sanitizers, PPE kits, wheelchairs, stretchers, and more.
Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Martin Schwenk, said that the new medical facility would provide support to the local authorities and the residents if the situation worsened.
The company has a manufacturing facility and a corporate office in Chakan industrial belt, Pune.
Mercedes-Benz India also donated to a hospital all the ventilators. The company now wants to support 1,600 families in Viman Nagar and Khed area, Pune with cleaning kits and dry ration.
Once the pandemic is finally contained and the medical equipment isn’t needed anymore, it will be donated to the Civil Hospital of Khed. The company will also donate the isolation wards’ assets to the tribal youth hostels.
Around the globe, automakers are also contributing their efforts in the fight against COVID-19. To meet Spain’s rising demand for masks, Renault announced that its workers would be making them from home. Meanwhile, Mahindra engineers are working on a low-cost ventilator.
