Wipro is planning to convert a campus into makeshift hospital with about 450 beds, joining a hand in the long-time battle against the COVID-19 epidemic in India.

For the time being, the number of COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra, where the Pune-based campus of Wipro is located, has taken up to a third of the country’s total cases testing positive with the virus. Pune district itself has recorded 2,200 cases, taking the 2nd spot when it comes to the most affected area in the state.

Wipro Applying Thought
This campus is located in Pune district, Maharashtra.

According to the company, the aforementioned campus is among a bunch of its facilities in the Hinjewadi area, which is also home to several IT companies. Once done, it’ll be responsible for being an intermediary hospital to support the community.

As projected, the process of refurbishing this campus will need about a month to complete before the handover to local authorities. It’ll be reconverted into an IT workplace after a year of acting as a healthcare hub.

Wipro and Azim Premji Foundation are carrying out many supports across the country to help people cope with the pandemic.

Wipro said in the statement that the temporary hospital will utilize 450 beds for COVID-19 patients. Out of all, 12 beds will be used for critical patients while healthcare staff and doctors also have their own accommodations.

Physical infrastructure including medical equipment and furniture is being installed under the company’s management. On Tuesday, Wipro and the Maharashtra government signed a memorandum for the use of this facility.
