Lamborghini To 3D Print Mechanical Lung To Fight Off CO.VID-19

Luxury automaker Lamborghini has jumped on the bandwagon again to lend a helping hand to Italy in the fight against the CO.VID-19 pandemic. After manufacturing face shields and masks for health officials, it now introduces a mechanical lung that can serve as a breathing simulator.

In a press release, Lamborghini announced that it was offering its Research and Development Department’s equipment and resources to produce lung simulators to assist SIARE Engineering International Group, a pulmonary respirator manufacturer, in the fight against CO.VID-19.

The next stage is for testing staff to do further evaluative tests before the mechanical lungs reach the mass adoption stage.

As stated by Lamborghini, in a two-week time period, it had designed, produced, and validated the prototype in its 3D printing laboratory. For now, the production unit is capable of making 18 units of the mechanical lung each week.

This adds to the capacity of medical visors, which are also 3D-printed from polycarbonate.

These two needed medical equipment are produced by using the HP Jet Fusion 3D 4200 printer, known for its high precision. The Sant’Agata manufacturing plant of Lamborghini is now close and temporarily cease any activities relating to manufacturing cars, a common practice among automobiles all over the world due to the effect of CO.VID-19.

As they have at their disposal technical prowess, these companies have proven to be valuable fighting forces against the devastating impact of the Co.ro.na.vi.rus and address the most pressing issue of medical supply shortage.
