If you’re calling someone and suddenly hear a coughing sound, don’t panic yet because it’s likely just the pre-call awareness campaign on BSNL and Reliance Jio connections for educating people about the coronavirus. The campaign under the operation of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Since the first cases confirmed in Wuhan, China, COVID-19 has spread around the world and infected 42 people in India up to now.

Jio and BSNL have launched the pre-call awareness caller tune to customers who haven’t set a caller tune for their numbers. The aim behind the voice message is to educate people about several ways to protect themselves from the coronavirus, which they can hear despite the network they’re calling from.
According to a health official, with the aim of raising people’s awareness about preventive measures against the coronavirus infection, the Central government has implemented pre-call messages on Jio and BSNL connections.
The first thing users will hear in the message is a coughing sound followed by highlights about how to stop COVID-19 from spreading. Specifically, the message says:

Users will hear the message in Hindi, which fits the majority of the population in the country. In addition, the message warns people against touching their own faces, noses, or eyes. Also, if someone has a fever, breathlessness, or cough, you need to stay at least 1 meter from them. And if necessary, go to the nearest healthcare center immediately. The message includes the helpline number +91-11-23797-8046.
It’s not clear if this message will only be available to Jio and BSNL connections or would reach Vodafone Idea and Airtel too.

As of now, India has recorded 40 confirmed coronavirus cases, with the newest case being a three-year-old returning from Italy. COVID-19 is believed to originate in Wuhan, China, late last year with the first cases confirmed in late December 2019. The epidemic has since spread to almost every part of the world, surpassing the 100,000 cases mark last weekend and having claimed the lives of over 3,800 people worldwide. After China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, and some other countries, are taking the worst hit from the outbreak.
