COVID-19 has claimed the life of Brigadier General Nasser Shabani, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ commander on Friday last week. The news was reported by the semi-official Fars news Agency of Iran.
According to Anadolu Agency, Shabani’s career started in 1982 during the war between Iran and Iraq.
Brigadier General Nasser Shabani is among several religious, military, and political figures in Iran who have contracted the deadly Coronavirus.
Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak started last December, Iran has been of the worst-affected countries in the world.
As of Friday, March 13, the outbreak has taken the lives of 514 Iranians. From March 12 to March 13, Iran had 85 people succumbed to COVID-19.
The number of new cases is 1,289, raising the total number of infected cases to 11,364, according to Kianoush Jahanpour, the spokesperson of the country’s Health Ministry.
Iran is the country with the second-highest number of cases. The nation occupying he top spot is China, the epicenter of pandemic. The Islamic Republic of Iran is also the first among the Middle East nations to have a d.e.a.t.h.
Iran has been under criticism for not being transparent about the current situation in the country. So far, there is no information on when the first case of COVID-19 was detected.
It was not until over 30 government officials and PMs contracted the Coronavirus that Iran started to be more honest about the outbreak in the country.
Although the country is struggling to contain the spread of the virus, it allowed flights to Europe two days after cancelling. Europe is now the new epicenter of COVID-19 outbreak as China begins to have the situation under control.
The region has five countries on the list of worst-affected nations with Italy taking the top spot.
