India’s Wearable Market Shipped 14.9 Million Units In 2019

In 2019, the Indian wearable market shipped 14.9 million units, witnessing an impressive 168.3 YoY (year-over-year) growth.

An International Data Corporation report suggested that in 2019, the Indian wearable market shipped 14.9 million units, witnessing an impressive 168.3 YoY (year-over-year) growth.
With a 96.2% category share, basic wearables still have a dominating position in the country’s wearables market, up 177% YoY in 2019.

Smart wearable devices that can run applications from third-parties made up 3.8% of 2019’s overall wearable shipments and accounted for 49.5% growth from 2018.
IDC India’s Market Analyst, Anisha Dumbre said in a statement:
The earwear category accounted for most shipment volumes at 8.5 million units, growing five-fold from last year. Wrist bands were the second-largest wearable category while watches experienced a 77.5% growth.
Earwear was one of the country’s fastest-growing categories, with a 443.6% growth during 2019.
BoAt Lifestyle, a vendor from India, with a market share of 27.3% in this category, was the leading brand thanks to its partnerships with leading retail and e-commerce channels. The vendor also invested significantly in marketing while offering consumers affordable pricing.
However, in the segment for the truly wireless devices, Apple continues to dominate with its AirPods lineup, earning 43.1% market share.
IDC India’s Associate Research Manager, Jaipal Singh, said:
Wrist bands category shipped 5.3 million units, a 52.6% increase from last year.
Xiaomi with a 48.9% category share and a 54.7% YoY growth remained as the dominant leader.
With a 14.5% category share and a 24.1% growth, Titan was still in the second position. The top five vendors remained the same for the category, contributing 86.6% share in 2019. 933 thousand watches were shipped, accounting for 77.5% YoY growth. With 61.1% share and a 53.6% growth, smartwatches maintain their dominating position in the watch category.
For the smartwatch category, the leading vendor was Fossil with a 30.3% share. Apple took the second position with a 26.6% share.
In the basic watch category, Huami was the leading vendor with its Amazfit brand.
The company’s well-diversified portfolio and aggressive pricing helped the brand become the overall watch category’s second-largest brand.
