Despite The Uncontrollable Coronavirus Outbreak And Warning From PM Modi, Indians Celebrated Holi Festival

The coronavirus epidemic has reached India with increasing infected cases. But people still gathered and celebrated the Holi festival like nothing matters.

On Thursday, thousands of Indian people gathered to welcome spring with a rainbow of colors as they celebrated the annual Holi festival. Notably, people seemed to ignore PM Modi’s warning against joining festive activities due to growing concerns about the coronavirus outbreak.

This is an ancient festival heralding that winter has ended and the good has won over evil. And people will all go into the streets to celebrate this occasion. However, as the coronavirus is spreading quickly and uncontrollably, India has confirmed 30 cases so far, and the government has issued warnings about mass gatherings.

On Wednesday, PM Modi went on Twitter, saying that experts around the world advise people to reduce large gatherings to limit the spread of the virus, so he wouldn’t join any Holi Milan programs.

However, revelers in Uttar Pradesh didn’t seem to take this seriously and kicked off the festival anyway, saying that they did not want to halt their activities despite COVID-19.

It looks like some people are pretty optimistic, a 23YO student says that if we’re scared, we should just stay at home and do nothing because the coronavirus has come to India but life has to go on. Another person said that taking precautions is enough already. Meanwhile, a man says that the epidemic is serious but people are overreacting.
