Indian Startup Develops Thermal Camera To Screen COVID-19 Cases

Staqu has developed an AI-powered thermal camera that can detect people whose body temperature is higher than 37 Celsius degrees, thus alerting the system.

The COVID-19 outbreak has hit pause on everyone. People are advised not to leave their houses. Many have started working from home, maintaining social distancing to prevent the virus from spreading.

However, there are still some people who are irresponsible and want to go outside just for fun. If these people are infected with COVID-19, the virus can spread to other people, making matters worse. To deal with this, a Gurugram-based startup has come up with a solution.

If you find the name familiar, this is the same startup that developed JARVIS, an AI warden that is in charge of monitoring CCTVs in UP prisons.

The capabilities of JARVIS have been harnessed and paired with a thermal camera to detect suspected people. The camera can work within 100 meters and can identify multiple individuals at once. The camera can really become useful in crowded places like makes, railway stations, etc.

The camera comes with a wide sensitivity range: low sensitivity (-40 Celsius degrees to 550 Celsius degrees) and high sensitivity (-40 Celsius degrees to 160 Celsius degrees).

Staqu’s CEO and Co-founder, Atul Rai, said that this latest technology of the company takes away the human intervention. The technology, through heatwave analysis and other features, helps in reducing the risk of spreading the Coronavirus proactively.
