Recently, Yannis Pitsiladis made the news for his invention of researching the effect of extreme weather on elite athletes. It will work in real-time with the help of an electronic pill and a smart wristband he is making.

He hoped that his invention would be ready to help participants of next year’s Olympics to protect themselves, as well as fans and officials from the kind of weather conditions that can endanger them.
To have today’s achievement, the 52-year-old scientist has Neki Sumal, owner of an Indian fine-dining restaurant in Glasgow to thank. The restaurateur was the one who gave him the first funding breaks.
Pitsiladis is now a University of Brighton’s Professor of sports science, and he calls Balbirs, the Indian restaurant in question his home.

Their first encounter was 11 years ago, and from then on, Pitsiladis has had some pioneer studies in transgender, anti-doping, and intersex athletes. He is now on board of the International Olympic Committee and an expert on Tokyo’s conditions for Olympics 2020.
He also referred to the Chandrayaan 2 mission:

Pitsiladis is fascinated by the idea of finding out about the limit of human endurance. While funding is still a matter to him, he said that the worst time was over. Apart from challenging the norms in sports, the scientist seems to be especially impressed by Indian foods:
