The legendary Matterhorn Mountains of Switzerland was lit up with the Indian flag on Friday night with an aim to show solidarity for India in the fight against COVID-19.

This illumination is the artwork of Gerry Hofstetter, a world-famous Swiss light artist. It is part of a series that showcase a handful of nations’ national flags in a view to spread solidarity and hope in this trying time.

The show was so mesmerizing that PM Narendra Modi shared the picture of it on Twitter with a caption saying that the whole world was fighting the pandemic together and we would win it.

The image was projected to a height of 800 meters and the Embassy of India to Switzerland has tweeted the news.

The post soon went viral and attracted the attention of many Twitter users. Here are some of the responses:

Apart from India, the national flags of Spain, Japan, the US, and Germany are also part of this series.

In the last one week, every day when the Sun sets, the Matterhorn peak’s east and north faces are lit up with images and words visible from four kilometers away.

Gerry Hofstetter shared that the series started with the national flag of Switzerland, as it spoke to their nation and the mountain. The artist is known all over the world with his light shows that transform buildings.

The messages include “stay home,” “hope,” and “solidarity.” Another image that has been projected is a heart on a white background.

On Wednesday night, Switzerland’s flags, Ticino (a Swiss region), and Italy appeared on the mountain.
