Indian Firms Are Committing To Using Electric Vehicles To Fight Climate Change

With the government’s constant push and the automakers’ efforts, Indian firms adopting EVs acts as the greatest promoter of the switch to electric vehicles.

The private firms in India are fast forwarding the country’s transition towards electric vehicles. Following the government’s constant push and the automakers’ efforts, individual players adopting EVs acts as the greatest promoter of the switch to a type of transportation with zero emission.

Taking part in the effort, BSES Rajdhani Power and Shuttl have both become India’s latest business giants to participate in the EV100 initiative of The Climate Group.

For those who don’t know, EV100 is a global initiative aiming to gather together firms that are committed to speeding up the transition towards electric vehicles and bringing about the greatest outcome for electric transport by 2030.

This makes sense since firms like those mentioned above own about 50% of the registered vehicles on the streets. If they want to change their fleet of transportations into electric ones, they undoubtedly become one of the most powerful forces.

BRPL and Shuttle have vowed to adopt EVs to their fleet. The companies have recently announced charging infrastructure will be installed in the regions under their operations.

With a daily operation of about 30,000 rides in two regions including Kolkata and Delhi-NCR, Shuttl has plans on adopting 300 electric buses to its transportation fleet by 2020. The firm has promised to set up 50 charging stations for these buses in prime locations.

As per BRPL, the company promises that by 2030, its entire service will have been converted to electric. BRPL, being a power-distributing firm, is also making investments in trialing different models for the company’s facilities that will assist the electricity grid stabilization for EV charging. Not only that, these models will help the company know how to integrate renewable electricity into its grid network effectively.

The two companies’ announcements come at a time when The Climate Group in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and Energy Efficiency Services Limited calls for the attendance of electric mobility stakeholders for the discussion of EV aggregation.

Some of the stakeholders include IKEA Group, HP Inc, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, the State Bank of India, Wipro, and many more. The total number of attending firms is 37. With such effort and dedication, the shift toward EVs is progressing steadily and thus addressing the concerns in the fight against climate change.
