India Should Use Solar Panels To Charge Electric Vehicles Like This

That’s why the Indian government should consider alternative energy sources to meet the energy requirement in the coming time.

Compared to the conventional IC engines, electric vehicles have brought a lot of advantages in many different ways, such as reducing mechanical parts, smoother operation, and no carbon emissions. However, that’s not the whole truth. When you charge your electric car, the energy source you use, in fact, is emitting carbon.

The amount of carbon dioxide from it is, of course, much less than that from IC engines, but it is enough to deny the definition of emissions without carbon. That’s why the New York City has chosen a new renewable energy source, instead of what you are using.

According to PV Magazine, the US city has now had 37 chargers installed and will soon set up 50 solar chargers. By 2020, it will own another 100 such chargers, including standard and solar ones.

At present, the number of EVs reaches 1700. However, in the next 27 years, by 2025, there will be 2000 more electric vehicles in the whole city. While conducting the studies for the financial year 2018, NYC officials stated that each carport will help users save half the cost on gasoline compared to its expected lifespan.

Each charging panel, known as the EV ARC, is sold for Rs 42.7 lakh ($61,000) and can supply solar energy for 2-3 Nissan Leafs each day. The devices are expected to serve 10.4 lakh km (650,000 miles) each year.

Some of the outstanding benefits of these solar chargers are that they need no structure, as well as it’s not difficult to move them around the city when using a tow truck. Besides, the lithium-ion battery which is linked with the solar chargers can supply over 21 kWh of electricity in 9-12 modules with 60 solar cells.

A lot of other charging technologies are under NYC’s consideration, such as wireless/inductive charging, solar carports, 350+ kW charging, and self-charging streets.

Will this be the future of India or not? In reality, it is completely feasible. While NYC charge ports via solar power, India can even do better, generate much more energy with the larger scale due to its existing copious solar energy source.

The cost is a real issue that is stopping India from implementing this plan. If the Indian partners could copy this model at a better price, the country is willing to use solar chargers as a permanent source.

Coal is now the primary energy source of India; however, we can’t deny that it is emitting carbon into the atmosphere, leading to severe air pollution. While the electric vehicles have been rising in India, the requirement of energy will also increase. That’s why the Indian government should consider alternative energy sources to meet the energy requirement in the coming time.
