In An Effort To Go Green, Maharashtra Will Add 100 Electric Buses

In its efforts to induct a green fleet of transportation, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) plans to deploy 100 new electric buses.

In its effort to introduce a green fleet of public transportation, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has planned on adopting 100 new electric buses.

According to sources, all the new buses will be equipped with air-conditioning systems. The end of this year has been set as the deadline for this project. MSRTC’s managing director, Ranjit Singh Deol noted that these electric buses will be deployed on Maharashtra’s several intercity routes, which include the Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Nashik route.

MSRTC also wants to build the required charging infrastructure for these buses. Charging stations will be set up at the MSRTC depots as well as other important locations such as the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited will be in charge of this.

The new tenders belong to the center’s plan to deploy 5,000 electric buses across India for the next 12 months. The states had received a directive from the centre to put the floating tenders on a wet lease to start off the transition from the old type of transportation to a non-emission one.

While 100 electric buses might be an impressive number, the total of 5,000 will definitely make an important impact once they are put into operation.

India is making great efforts to build an EV ecosystem and the shift to deploying green transport systems is a part of the big plan. Besides offering EV makers and buyers subsidies, the government asks cab aggregators as well as delivery service players to take part in this transition. Through the use of electric vehicles, the country aims to tackle the worrying impact carbon emission puts on the environment.
