“Food has no religion” was the crisp reply from Zomato to a customer refusing to receive an order from a Muslim delivery boy. However, this religious stigma still persists. This time, it was a Swiggy customer.
A customer from the old city area in Hyderabad had made an order via Swiggy. But when the order was delivered by a Muslim boy, he didn’t accept it.
After the religious discrimination, the delivery guy lodged a complaint at the police station against the customer. The customer was Ajay Kumar who is from Aliabad. He ordered from the Grand Bawarchi restaurant Chicken-65 through Swiggy.
Ironically, the restaurant that he ordered is a Muslim chain itself.

In his order, Kumar wanted to have very less spicy food and a Hindy delivery person. He even wrote that he would review the service based on this.
When the delivery boy called Suleman called Ajay, he was verbally insulted.
Following the controversy, Majlis Bachao Tehreek political party’s president, Amzadullah Khan, expressed his shock questioning how food could be rejected just based on religion.
According to a report, Ajay when speaking with the customer care of Swiggy said that the Rs 95 cancellation fee doesn’t mean much to him, but he would not accept his food being delivered by a Muslim man.
Swiggy has not made any response regarding this incident.
A similar accident happened in July when a man called Amit Shukla from Madhya Pradesh also canceled his order because the delivery guy was a non-Hindu driver.
It is utterly ridiculous to cancelled a food order just because of religions, but, unfortunately, some people who will never learn.
