Indians texts with emojis every day to keep in touch with their friends, and we even have some most favorite emojis. Using emojis in daily life is not something unfamiliar for most of us, but have you ever thought that such amazing stuff was also used in the ancient world? This quirk now gets an answer: instead of emojis, hieroglyphs had reportedly appeared in the life of Ancient Egyptians during the Age of Pyramids. This idea derives from a recent exhibition called “Emoglyphs” in a museum in Israel.

Back in around 5,000 B.C, the Ancient Egyptians had thought of a way to vary their ways of communication, that’s the hieroglyphic script which consisted of several pictures. Unfortunately, they later came up with letters and gradually replaced the hieroglyphs with the new, more simply creation. Shirly Ben-Dor Evian, an archaeologist working at the Israel Musem, has been fascinated by this historical trails, so she appeared to establish an exhibit to showcase all the spectrum of hieroglyphs and the likes of emojis throughout the ancient age to modern times.

Thanks to such precious documents, people can learn more about all the ways the human communicate with others in the past and find it interesting when it comes to their modern-day equivalents.

Widely used by youngsters and millennial, emoji has become a unique language for communication in modern life. They’re also considered as a type of pictogram for users to express not only their feelings but also everything from climates or everyday objects. Rather than texting with kaomoji phrases or emotions, we now witness emojis make their own way into our conversations. According to Evian, as an Egyptologist, she wants to help people knowledge about ancient things that are still relevant to current life.
