Huawei, the Chinese tech giant at the center of the latest tension with the US government, announced that it would launch its own operating system for laptops and smartphones in China by fall. This move was taken after the US blacklisted it, leading to Google cutting off all Huawei devices from Android services.

According to Richard Yu, Huawei’s head of consumer business, the international version will be rolled out in the first or second quarter next year.

This week, Huawei has to face with a massive setback after the US forbade the transfer or sale of the country’s technology to this Chinese firm. Apart from the operating system, Google apps and other services will also be out of reach for all devices from Huawei.

According to a Chinese state-run news agency, The Global Times, the new platform is called “HongMeng,” and it is on trial phase. Huawei’s own operating system will eventually be the substitute for Android.

The US Commerce Department’s entity list includes Huawei as well as its 68 affiliates. However, earlier this week, it has given the company a three-month reprieve, meaning some services will be out of the ban in this time period.
