The Indian government has rolled out Aarogya Setu, a COVID-19 tracking app for both Android and iOS users. It was developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s National Informatics Centre. So, how does the app help you and how to use Aarogya Setu app?
The app description says that with augmenting efforts, it’s meant to proactively provide citizens with information about the best practices as well as relevant advisories related to the ongoing pandemic. Over the past few weeks, state and union governments have rolled out several apps related to the epidemic to help limit the spread of the virus while supporting people in fighting the disease.
Aarogya Setu, meaning A bridge of health, helps its users identify if they may get infected with the virus by checking whether they have had contact with an infected person. However, the government hasn’t clarified this.
Indians can use this app in 11 languages like English and Hindi. It also needs Bluetooth connections along with access to your location to function.
How to use Aarogya Setu app
First, you need to register with your mobile number.
Then, you will be asked to provide credentials, but this is optional. In case you’re worried about data security and privacy, the app is claimed to encrypt all stored data and doesn’t share it with third parties.
Now, go to the apps’ home page, which will tell you if you’re in a safe place or not based on your current location. For Android users, you can see live tweets posted by the Ministry of Health too. But apart from that, the iOS and Android versions of the app offer the same features for users.
As of this morning, the number of CO.VID-19 cases worldwide crossed the 1 million mark while the death toll has surpassed 50,000.
