How Are IIT's Fighting The CO.VID-19 Pandemic With Their Own Projects?

While healthcare workers on the frontline to treat CO.VID-19 patients, IIT's are doing their part to fight the pandemic. Here are some of their projects.

The coro.navirus is spreading so quickly in India. The number of people getting infected and die has been going up dramatically (10,500 people got infected and 358 people died). Facing this serious situation, India has to stop daily activities to focus on activities dealing with the pandemic and the IIT is one of the most active forces working on this. They have quickly started projects to support the government and people with testing, tracking infected people, and providing equipment supporting the treating process.

Here are some of the projects that IIT's are working on to help India cope with the pandemic.

IIT Delhi's App Tells If You Have Contact With A Patient

An App That Tells If You Have Contact With A Patient

A group of 5 students from the institute has built an app using Bluetooth to identify people contacting with patients at a distance of less than 2 meters. Data from the app is secure and reliable so that people can know if they have contact with infected people or not and medical staff can do their job easier.

A group at Kusuma School of Biological Science of the institute is also developing a kit so the testing cost will be lower. If the government approves it, more people will be tested.

To contribute to the fight, IIT Guwahati provides 5,000 bottles of sanitizers for the GMCH organization and the Assam government. Besides, they are making real-time PCR Machines for GMHC to diagnose people infected. That is not everything. The institute also has groups working to find a vaccine for the disease. It is going all out and taking an important part in this campaign. They are trying to develop methods for initial stage symptomatic treatment.

The department of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics and Electrical Engineering is working on many kinds of machines to support the testing and treating process.

The director hopes that in the future, IIT Guwahati will be able to contribute to developing highly competent manpower in the initial stage of infection and prevention of other diseases.

This project is being developed by a group of students with the aim to produce a system of sprayers to automate sanitization in large areas in a much shorter time using drones.

Anant Mittal, Civil Engineering student at IIT Guwahati, says that using drones not only raises the effect of sanitization but also limits the number of people directly doing it to follow the distancing guidelines by WHO.

IIT Roorkee's App To Track Patients

Two students of IIT Roorkee prepared and distributed 150 liters of herbal hand sanitizer to the campus. This sanitizer is qualified to help prevent the virus.

One scholar at the institute says that practicing basic hygiene is very important in the situation that Coronavirus is spreading quickly when there isn’t any vaccine or specific treatment for it so this product will be very helpful.

IIT Kharagpur

IIT Kharagpur has promoted 2 alcohol-based hand wash. These sanitizers are very effective to prevent the virus.
