People love their smartphones, whether they are iOS or Android devices. And all the apps that they can find in the app store make the whole experience more worth it. And now, Google has just announced that since Google Play Store was launched, it has paid over $80 million or Rs Lakh crore to app developers.
The number was revealed following the release of Alphabet’s 2019 Q4 earnings. Developers from China were excluded. Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google’s Senior Vice President tweeted about this and thanked the developer community for their contribution to help android thrive.
According to a Statista 2017 research, on Google Play Store, there are more than 724,000 app developers. Meanwhile, Apple App Store has only 494,000 developers. However, although Play Store has more developers creating Android apps, Apple developers make more money.
Back in 2019, Apple revealed that iOS developers made more than $120 billion or Rs 8.5 Lakh crore since Apple’s App Store was first launched in 2008. Google also launched its Android Market in the same year and later rebranded it as Play Store.

In comparison, the number of iOS devices is less than that of Android devices. However, the Play Store offers more free apps than the Apple App Store. People who are willing to pay for Apple’s expensive iPhones don’t mind spending on an app. In contrast, an Android user who is on a tight budget is also looking for free apps.
It is worth noting that Google Play earns 30% from the app sales. Therefore, the actual amount of money that app developers should receive would be somewhere around $114 billion or Rs 8.1 Lakh crore.
