Global 5G Network Infrastructure Revenue To Reach $4.2 Billion In 2020

By 2020, global 5G wireless network infrastructure revenue would reach $4.2 billion, an 89 percent increase from 2019 revenue of $2.2 billion.

According to a recent report by Gartner, Inc., a US-based multinational research and advisory company, the worldwide 5G infrastructure will reach the total revenue of $4.2 billion by 2020, an increase from 2019 earnings of $2.2 billion. Also, the company forecasts that investments pouring into 5G New Radio (NR) ecosystem are going to double within a one-year period starting from 2019. As for that, the investments will contribute to 12% of the overall wireless infrastructure revenue of the communications service providers (CSPs) in 2020.

5G network infrastructure: Current operations

By the end of 2020, 5G services will probably be up for grabs within major cities. The services have already been launched in several locations including the U.S, South Korea, and some European countries.

In the meantime, CSPs in other countries such as France, HongKong, and Qatar, have revealed plans to speed up the construction of 5G network this year. Altogether, there are 7% of CSPs across the world which have provided 5G services to customers.

It is noted that 5G New Radio (NR) is currently operating in conjunction with 4G core network infrastructure that helps to enhance its performance.

Future vision for 5G coverage

This year, CSPs will replace non-stand-alone technology with stand-alone 5G technology to facilitate 5G deployments. That means 5G coverage will be separated from the current infrastructure of 4G and run on its own core network. CSPs expected this scheme to bring down the costs for operating the systems while improving internet quality for users.

Over and above, internet providers plan to strengthen their focus on business customers. Though consumers remain the principal segment for CSPs, such re-direction could significantly boost the application of 5G network within new industries like autonomous transportation or remote healthcare.

He asserted that CSPs needed to upgrade 4G infrastructure around the coverage areas of 5G, leading to the success in maintaining average performance standards.

The two-year period from 2019 to 2021 will mark the implementation of 5G coverage across hot spots and areas of high population density.
