Today, in-game purchases have become more common than ever and game developers have brought innovative, cool skins as well as upgrades to attract players.
Recently, a gamer in China has sued his friend for selling his character in a video game for Rs 40,000 while it’s worth Rs 10 crores.
The game in question is Justice Online, where the player let his friend use his character for playing for a while. After playing the game for a long time, the friend felt exhausted and dizzy. He then tried to send the owner his character back. But he accidentally sold the character to a random person on NetEase, an in-game marketplace, for only 3,888 yuan. This number is equal to around Rs 40,000.
If you want to ask how a game character can be priced at up to Rs 10 crores, it’s because its owner spent a long time and a lot of money on customizing it.
Lu Mou, the name of the owner, filed a lawsuit against Li Mouscheng to the Hongya County Court, Sichuan Province. Later, Mou won the suit. Li Mouscheng was asked to not only return the character to its owner but also pay the buyer 90,000 yuan (roughly Rs 9 lakh) as compensation for damages. Furthermore, the local court used this case as an example to warn teenagers and parents about the health effects of overplaying video games.

China recently began to introduce a lot of new rules for protecting children from game addiction. The country banned children under the age of 18 from playing gams after 10 P.M. Children can now play games only from 8 A.M. and 10 P.M. Additionally, they can’t play for over 90 minutes on weekdays. At the weekend, they can play 3 hours a day.
