On Saturday, a fireball fell from the sky and landed near the Ghaziabad railway station, causing panic among locals. It was later found out that the strange object contains sodium.
The fire brigade officials said that they got information of something people suspect a meteorite on Wednesday. Despite the heavy rain at the time the fireball touched down, a large number of people still gathered around to see it for themselves after hearing a bang, which they describe is as loud as the sound of thunder.
Firefighters later tried to douse the flame but the object kept on burning slowly with no smoke.
As stated by Ajay Shanker Pandey, District Magistrate, science co-coordinator Vivek and geologist S C Sharma had been sent to the spot where the fireball landed to examine it.
In the report the two experts filed, the fireball is made of sodium as it creates a fume when water presents. Samples of the object were going to be delivering to a lab in Lucknow for further testing, said Pandey.
He also shared that the proceeding would be monitored by the city magistrate.
Local residents claimed that they saw three, not one fireball falling from the sky.
In 2019, a meteorite landed on the rice filed in Madhubani district in Bihar state. It is the size of a football and sent up lots of smoke.
According to the magistrate for Madhubani, Kapil Ashok, local residents reportedly saw a fireball falling down from the sky. They later unearthed the object from a depth of 150 cm.
The fireball was reportedly brown with some shine and had magnetic properties. It weighs around 15 kg.
Ashok said that at first look it might look like a piece of rock, but the glitter is like that of a stone.
