Elon Musk Continues To Underestimate COVID-19, Saying Car Crashes Are More Deadly Than Coronavirus

Elon Musk wrote an email to his employees, saying that driving a car home has a higher death risk than COVID-19.

Elon Musk, who we all know as the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla and SpaceX, says that the death risk of COVID-19 is lower than that of car accidents.

BuzzFeed News reported that Musk wrote to SpaceX employees, saying that to compare, the risk of death from the pandemic is lower than the death risk from driving home in a car. Musk continued by saying there are around 36,000 automotive deaths per deaths while the figure for COVID-19 is 36 up to now. he reportedly sent the email to employees on Friday.

The email also said that from the evidence about the pandemic, Musk suggests COVID-19 is not even in the top 100 death risks in the US. Previously, he tweeted about the coronavirus, which said: “The coronavirus panic is dumb.” Employees of SpaceX are currently working at its California headquarters while Tesla factories and offices still open, according to BuzzFeed.

As of today, COVID-19 has spread to over 140 countries around the world, including Africa as the newest continent, after hitting Asia first. Declared a pandemic last week, the coronavirus disease has taken more than 6,500 lives and confirmed 169,000 cases worldwide. As seen from a real-time map, India has had at least 113 confirmed cases and 2 deaths.

Many companies and organizations have advised their employees to work from home to limit the spread of the virus. Italy and Spain have even put the entire country on lockdown, requiring everyone to stay at home while the US government has finally recognized the seriousness of the pandemic and started taking action.
