After making bio suits, the Defence Research and Development Organization has converted firefighting equipment into disinfection machines. These devices will be deployed to sanitize roads as well as other surfaces. There are fire suppressants’ spin-offs, built by the Center for Fire Explosive & Environment Safety at DRDO.

This sanitation equipment can be filled with decontamination solutions with 1% of Hypochlorite for sanitization.

In a statement, DRDO said that the portable system could be carried like a backpack by the operating personnel. Low-pressure twin fluid technology is incorporated to spray a very fine mist. The machine can cover an area of up to 300 square meters. Places, where this machine can be used, include hospital reception, office spaces, pathways, corridors, doctor chambers, railway, metro and bus stations, etc.

This sanitation equipment can be filled with decontamination solutions with 1% of Hypochlorite for sanitization.

Two of these systems have been handed to the Delhi Police. With industry partners’ help, these can be sent to other agencies.

Before this disinfection machines, DRDO has developed a bio-suit to help medical professionals fight COVID-19. The bio-suit from DRDO comes with a unique feature. A special sealant has been prepared to replace the seam sealing tape. The special sealant is based similar to the one used in submarine applications.

This special sealant is needed because according to DRDO, India’s bio-suit production is being hampered because of seam sealing tapes’ non-availability.

Regarding the bio suit’s effectiveness, DRDO claims that it has been carefully prepared and has gone under testing for textile parameters and protection against synthetic blood.
