DRDO, also known as the Defense Research and Development Organization, will kick in to help healthcare workers and medical professionals in the battle against the ongoing pandemic. To do this, the agency will provide them with bio suits that are made with the same tech used in submarine applications.
However, the bio suits made by the agency have a unique feature. The suits have a special sealant to seam sealing tape, which is based on the sealant used for submarine, according to a recent press statement from DRDO.
In the statement, the agency says that its suits have passed the tests and will soon be mass-produced for use. The agency also says that its bio suits using the sealant glue for seam sealing from an industry partner have passed the test of SITRA Coimbatore (Southern India Textile Research Association). DRDO added that the glue could be a game-changer for the textile industry, which can go into mass production to support the seam sealing activity for suit manufacturers.
In addition, DRDO has made sure the biosuit can be used against the virus. Besides the test mentioned above, the suit also underwent testing against synthetic blood, which exceeds the criteria the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare defined for bodysuits.
DRDO stated that currently, it can make 7,000 suits a day but it’s working with another vendor to raise the production capacity to 15,000 suits a day.
Recently, the Indian Army also said it would help by preparing 9,000 hospital beds for CO.VID-19 patients.
