This Is The Deepest Hole In The World And How Deep It Is

The Kola Superdeep Borehole has been recorded as the world’s deepest hole since the drilling was stopped in 1992.

The deepest hole in the world, which is also called as a portal to the center of the earth that lies in the rubble of an abandoned project site in Murmansk, Russia, can be the inspiration of many horror films in the future. That is the reason why the local habitats name it as well to hell.

The hole is called "Kola Superdeep Borehole".

But keep in mind: Although the depth may create nightmares for you, it is just a small hole with a diameter of nine inches, which equals 23 centimeters. No one could fall into it. The hole is called Kola Superdeep Borehole and it is the world’s deepest hole that dug approximately 7.5 miles or 12,262 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. It takes about 20 years to reach this depth.

Initially, the hold was planned to reach the maximum depth, which was expected to reach more or less than 9 miles, equaling 14,500 meters. However, scientists and engineers had no choice but to give up when they met too high temperatures. At the depth of 7.5 miles underground, the rocks that aged 2.7 billion years old there had the temperature at approximately 180 degrees Celcius, which was near twice as hot as they had estimated.

It has been recorded as the world’s deepest hole since the drilling was stopped in 1992.

Unexpected hotness destructed the drill bits and pipes. The rocks share the same situation and start to be more malleable. They were described to be more like plastic than rock, according to the Russian researchers in Kola.

The Kola Superdeep Borehole has been recorded as the world’s deepest hole since the drilling was stopped in 1992 and the project was left abandoned a decade after. Humans did dig longer boreholes, such as the 12,289-meter offshore oil near Sakhalin island of Russia. However, no hole is deeper than the one in Kola.
