Nurse Wears Only Underwear Under Transparent Protective Suit, Male Patients Said They Had No Objection

A man said in a voice thick with sarcasm that the nurse should be rewarded as when COVID-19 patients saw what she had on, no one wanted to die anymore

A Russian nurse has recently been disciplined for putting on only underwear under the transparent protective suit while working at an all-male ward for COVID-19 patients.

The picture portraying her in the controversial outfit went viral online after a patient in Tula hospital took and shared it. He also said none of his bedfellows had anything to complain though.

However, the hospital chiefs are not so forgiving. The nurse was punished soon after the picture went viral for not complying with the requirement for clothing.

Explaining her decision to strip to only lingerie, the 20-something nurse said she felt too hot wearing both her uniform and the protective suit. She told the managers that she was not aware of the transparency of the gown.

While this is a trying time for everyone, especially for those at the front line, working under the pressure of treating a large number of COVID-19 patients, the regional health ministry still decided to punish her.

Her managers said she was wearing underwear but later he changed his mind, saying the nurse having swim suit on her at the time.

The nurse shared nothing more on the incident and no one knows what kind of punishment she was going to get.

A person in the ward said the male patients had no objection against the way the nurse dressed but admitted there was a bit embarrassment.

When Tula News covered the incident, one reader said the nurse had some sense of humor amid the tension caused by the pandemic.

Another expressed support for her, saying everyone focused too much on the lingerie and forgot the fact that she did it due to the heat.

Another suggested the managers needed to take the blame for letting health officials working in unbearable conditions.

A man said in a voice thick with sarcasm that the nurse should be rewarded as when patients saw what she had on, no one wanted to die anymore.

This incident followed the bold announcement of a public figure, head of Covid-19 monitoring centre of Russia, Alexander Myasnikov. He said Russians would all get sick of COVID-19 and those who likely died would die.

As of Tuesday, the country had 299,941 confirmed cases with 2,837 people had died because of the disease.

However, many believe these statistics do not reflect the true scale of infection in Russia. In Tula alone, there have been 2,637 cases with a death toll of 19.
