COVID-19 is thought to claim its first victim in India. The patient was a 76-year-old man lived in the Kalaburagi District of Karnataka, as stated by the Health and Family Welfare department on Wednesday.

The man’s name is Mohammed Hussain Siddiqui and he passed away at a government hospital on Tuesday.

The man’s swab sample has been sent to a lab in Bengaluru for testing and the result is expected to come out soon.

Siddiqui made a trip to Saudi Arabia for a pilgrimage before he d.i.e.d, according to the local authority.

On Wednesday, WHO declared that COVID-19 was now a global pandemic, the same day the man in Karnataka d.i.e.d. He showed symptoms like coughing, breathless, and cold.

According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, the organization is deeply concerned with the severity and the speed at which the pandemic spreads.

He also said that countries still has hope to change the course of the outbreak by detecting, tracing, treating, and isolating people in time.

The announcement of WHO was made public just hours after the man in Karnataka d.i.e.d. However, so far, we have had no solid conclusion on the cause of death. The report of the National Institute of Virology is expected to be delivered today.
