German Chancellor Went Into Self-Quarantine For Fear Of COVID-19

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, has self-quarantined herself after learning that the doctor who vaccinated her for pneumonia tested positive for COVID-19

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, has self-quarantined herself after learning that the doctor who vaccinated her for pneumonia tested positive for COVID-19.

Merkel plans to serve her duties from home and she will be scanned regularly in the next few days. The fact that she is now in self isolation will not affect much the day-to-day operation of the Germany’s government. The cabinet will meet today discussing a $160 billion stimulus package to help the country afloat when the pandemic is wreaking havoc.

As of yesterday, the country’s number of confirmed cases reached 24,000 and the d.e.a.t.h toll was 90. The news of Merkel being under self-quarantine came soon after the Germany’s government imposed new rule on social distancing.

Restaurants are to stay open but no dine-in is allowed, only delivery and takeout. The citizens can go out to get to work, visit doctors, shop, or care for relatives.

In Germany, whenever people go outside, they must keep a distance of 1.2 meters to each other. The rules were laid down after too many Germans failed to comply with the guidelines that advise them to stay at home. As spring weather starts to show, parks in Berlin were filled with people. Several youngsters also threw Corona parties that the police must interfere to break up.

Germany is not the only countries that impose rules on social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19. According to the U.S government, gathering with a number exceeding 10 in one place is forbidden. Switzerland government said that people in a group fewer than five must stand at least 2 meters from each other otherwise they will be fined.

Spain and Italy lay down even stricter rules of not allowing people to leave their homes unless they need to see a doctor, buy foods, or fill a prescription.
