Internet addiction, as well as smartphone addiction, is not a strange phenomenon in modern society because we can see it in both adults and kids. However, in some cases, teenagers always seem to have some unique ways to keep connecting to the internet in unexpected methods.
According to a report from The Guardian, a 15-YO teenager named Dorothy whose Twitter handle is @thankunext327 has become famous after being taken away smartphone by her mom. The story may not be interesting if she didn’t post new tweets to her followers by using a smart refrigerator.
The girl said to The Guardian that after she almost set her kitchen on fire, her mom impounded her smartphone. Her mom hoped that she could be more concerned about her surroundings. The teenager also revealed, “She took all my tech so I’d pay more attention to my surroundings. I felt mortified! I was worried because I’ve been bored all summer and Twitter passes the time for me.”
However, that isn’t clearly the first priority of this teenager. She managed to find a solution that allowed her to continue contacting with her followers on Twitter, as well as connecting to the internet.
The tool helped her to access Twitter was a Nintendo handheld console. With it, Dorothy could finally log in and send any tweet as she wanted.
It’s a pity that her mom rapidly discovered her secret and took away the console.
Smart Dorothy never seemed to make her followers disappointed. This time, she allegedly used a device, which most of us couldn’t think of, to log in her Twitter account: A smart fridge manufactured by the LG brand.
Dorothy also sent a bunch of thanks to those who supported her during her chaotic period.
Her story got big attention from the netizen and they immediately began a new trend called #FreeDorothy on Twitter. A lot of users even shared memes and imagined her mom’s new reaction. Even some thought that Dorothy’s mom might throw the fridge out of the house. More interestingly, the South Korea-based electronics company LG also shared the hashtag #FreeDorothy on its Twitter handle.
Dorothy hasn’t revealed how long her mom confiscated her smartphone; however, it seemed too difficult to prevent the smart girl from staying online and getting in touch with her Twitter followers.
